Slice & Soda at times reminds me of many indie dance groups, but throws in a good level of synth and electro sounds to create something unique enough to stand out from the rest. The vocals are mixed in nicely, so they’re not always the focus of the songs, but can be if you want them to be. Cowbells, thick bass lines, soothing synth, and simple drum lines make this album fun from start to finish, but my favorite tracks are Gasoline Fire, Shake Up, and Slapped Awake. Check ‘em out after the break, then listen to the album here.
Also, the singer has points where I swear he’s channeling Bowie’s quieter moments.

In the 80s the exuberant and often vapid sounds of disco were replaced with more introspective, plaintive, often dark sound of new wave and post punk. today, its interesting to contrast the hyper produced, autotuned tween dance anthems of gaga, perry, etc with this type of “intelligent”, more technically accomplished indie dance rock that appropriates the language of new wave and dance/club music and uses it in “deeper”, smarter, and more interesting ways. its cool to see it all come back around and see how it reflects our culture and society.
