If you’re a fan of our weekly Songs of the Week feature, then you may have already heard a few tracks from this album. I caught a snippet of one Orgone’s new instrumental tracks on the radio a few months back, and it led to some research that really got me groovin’ to this LA afro-soul / funk act. Cali Fever is the first of two albums released this year by Orgone, the other being an all-instrumental album called The Killion Vault. They’re headlining their own partial US tour at the moment, after spending a few months touring with and opening for the similarly anachronistic Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. No word at the moment on any upcoming east coast tour dates, but hopefully some emerge soon because it would be a blast to see these guys do what they do live. Some songs you should sample from the playlist above include It’s Time Tonight, Lookout, The Only One, and what is perhaps my favorite track from the album, The Cleaner. That last one there is also an instrumental funk groove and should give you an idea of what their The Killion Vault album feels like. It’s hot stuff. You can check out their official website, but be warned, It’s Time Tonight starts playing automatically as the page loads. In the upcoming weeks, I plan on posting their debut album, The Killion Floor, a double LP which has the tendency to funk human socks off clean off of human feet. Stay tuned for that, and in the meantime, you should totally download The Only One below. Enjoy.
