Fans of The Music of Mad Men, as the 4th season comes to a close this weekend, we’ve got some inspiring new music to keep you company during the long offseason. Recently, a group of gifted musicians fell in love with the opening theme song to the show, and discovered that some particular lyrics fit the music quite well. They embarked on an ambitious journey to merge the shows theme with the lyrics from Nat King Cole’s Nature Boy, with the focus on filming the video and recording the audio in one continuous shot. 29 attempts later, and we’re looking at this very impressive, wildly creative final product. You can hear the RJD2 version of the theme A Beautiful Mine in the Volume 1 playlist of The Music of Mad Men post. But as an added bonus, I’m also going to include the original music that RJD2 sampled to create the theme. I’ve always wanted to work this into our Music of Mad Men post, but I felt that it would get lost amongst the many other songs being tracked over there. So without further ado, here is Enoch Light – Autumn Leaves. RJD2 went a long way with that sample, huh?

We loved the song “A Beautiful Mine” by RJD2 that plays during the opening credits of “Mad Men.” We wanted to put lyrics to it and realized that “Nature Boy” made famous by Nat King Cole, and written by Eden Ahbez, was the perfect fit. This was filmed in one take (this one, specifically, happened to be take 29 of the day)…no cuts, dubbing, lip-syncing or auto-tuning. More videos coming soon…This is a Video Recorded Live.
