I’d like to switch it up a little bit here and introduce everyone to Chris Kursel. Raised in Milwaukee, Chris went to BU for film, then made his mark at the Boston office of Modernista (an ad agency known for some edgy stuff), before going coastal and splitting for San Francisco where he is now based. He makes a living in the ad world, but Chris is also a serious artist, writer and filmmaker whose latest venture into music video making is very impressive. He also happens to be a good friend of some of us here at MMB, but that’s not why I am posting his work. Continue reading to see two of his recent videos that showcase what a talented young filmmaker can do for some up-and-coming artists these days.

Sam Pace – My Love Is A Burning Fire

Music by Sam Pace off the Let The Big Dog Eat EP.
Directed, shot and edited by C Kursel.
Starring Sam Pace, Sarah Philipp and Lou.

This is Chris’ eerie new video for Sam Pace’s My Love is a Burning Fire. You can see some photos from the videoshoot at SamPaceMusic.com. Chris also recently made a very cool Video Poster for one of Sam’s upcoming shows in Milwaukee, be sure to check that out as well. You can listen to Sam’s Let The Big Dog Eat EP right here.

Greg Mullen – Pipes That Drain Out To The Sea

Music by Greg Mullen
Super8 and hand-drawn animation.
Directed, animated and edited by C Kursel.
Starring Jeremy Stewart and Raquel Castellanos.

This is another video by Chris, for Boston-based musician Greg Mullen. You can hear some of Greg’s music on his Bandcamp site and his own site’s Listen page. This video was filmed on Ocean Beach in San Francisco, not far from where Chris currently resides. He shot this video with his vintage Kodak Super8 video camera, which he also used during our time in and around Indio, CA for Coachella this past Arpil.

Keep an eye out here for some of Chris’ upcoming videos and works. At some point in the near future he’ll be working with NYC rockers The Rassle. More on that later. I hope you enjoyed his work, feel free to drop him a line on Facebook or Vimeo if you did.
