Nine years ago today we lost one of the great ones at a very young age. I remember Aaliyah came out and started really making waves right as I was going into middle school. This meant that every dance and social event I went to during those years probably had an Aaliyah track playing. In between feeling awkward with the rest of the guys across the gym from all the girls looking back at us I spent a lot of time just listening to most of the music. I still love all of that music and every time I see some hip hop/RnB 90s night announced I’m always tempted to go thinking about moving to the likes of Adina Howard, Blackstreet, and of course Aaliyah. I remember hearing about the plane crash and writing it off as BS until more and more people started talking about it. It’s crazy to think it’s been 9 years since that day but at least her music is living strong and always accessible in most of our minds. Below is my favorite Aaliyah track for yall. RIP to an amazingly talented artist.

sucks she was only 22. Also on this day 16 years ago Jimmy Buffet crashed his plane off the coast of Nantucket but tragically survived. Life’s a cruel game. RIP Aaliyah.
